The Carrier Mills-Stonefort High School just held their third PBIS Event of the year. Homeroom Challenge #3: The Relay Race Competition took place on November 15. Those students that attended school, learned something new, asked questions, told the truth, and treated others with respect, were allowed to participate in the relay race competition. Each class was assigned a coach, a team name, and team colors to wear during the competition. Each team then participated in eleven different events. The team that finished first in the event was awarded 4 points, second place earned their team 3 points, third place was 2 points, fourth place was 1 point, and a disqualification was zero points. At the end of the eleven events the points were added together and the class with the most points was named the relay race champion.
A few of the relay races were: 1) Scavenger Hunt- where five students had to find hidden clues, put them together, and decipher a 3-digit code to open a briefcase. This event was won by the Sophomore Class (DeNeal's Destroyers). 2) Run Down and Run Back Relay- where eight team members raced down the floor and back again. This event was won by the Senior Class (thanks to the effort of Aaron Metzger). 3) Spoon and Golf Ball Relay- this was also won by Lane's Lunatics (seniors). The eight students had to hold a spoon between their teeth and balance a golf ball on the spoon without using their hands all the way down the floor and back again. 4) Hoop Shoot Relay-which was won by the Sophomore Class (DeNeal's Destroyers), asked eight students to dribble a basketball down the floor, make a shot, and dribble back to the next teammate in line. 4) Jigsaw Puzzle Relay- ten students run to the middle of the floor, pick up a puzzle piece, and drop them on a puzzle board at the end of the gym. The last player had to correctly put the puzzle together. This event was won by the Junior Class, Eisenhauer's Giant Killers.
Heading into the last three events, the Senior Class held a comfortable lead, but the Junior Class, hoping for an upset, won the next two events to bring the event to a tie. At the beginning of the eleventh and final event, it was Lane's Lunatics and Eisenhauer's Giant Killers tied at 26 apiece. The final event, the Run Waiter Run race, asked the eight teammates to balance a ping pong ball on a tray all the way down the floor and back by only using one hand. Winning the event, their third straight first place finish, was the Junior Class.
The Freshmen Class, coached by Mr. Ryan (Ryan's Renegades), wearing green and white, finished in 4th Place with 20 total points. The Sophomores, coached by Mr. DeNeal (DeNeal's Destroyers), wearing orange and black, earned a 3rd Place finish with 24 points. Lane's Lunatics (Senior Class), coached by Mrs. Lane, wearing purple and gold, finished in 2nd Place with 28 points. Winning their first ever homeroom challenge as a class, the Junior Class, coached by Mr. Eisenhauer (Eisenhauer's Giant Killers), wearing blue and red, finished the event in 1st Place with 30 total points. Mr. Eisenhauer was presented with the Victory is Ours trophy and the Junior Class were given their championship belts. After three homeroom challenges it is a three-way tie for first place between the Seniors, Juniors, and Sophomores with one win each (Seniors won the Dodgeball Tournament, Sophomores won the Volleyball Tournament, and the Juniors won the Relay Race Competition).
