Scholar Bowl

ELDORADO (10/8/24): Battling the toughest questions they’ve heard in years, the Carrier Mills-Stonefort varsity scholar bowl team won its season opener on Tuesday at Eldorado. The defending Greater Egyptian Conference champion Wildcats (1-0) won 70-20 over the Eagles (0-1) in a low-scoring match of difficult questions from 2007. Senior captain Jade Nalley led the Wildcats with 50 points. Junior Brayden Kirk scored 20. "Today was a difficult match,” Nalley said. “But I think we all did our best, and it shows. We'll continue to do better as the year goes on." In the junior varsity match, the JV Eagles started their season with an impressive showing, winning 330-100 over the JV Wildcats. JV Wildcats captain Khloe Kidd, fellow freshman Summer Janaskie, and sophomore Easton Fowler each scored 30 points in their scholar bowl debut. Freshman Jeremiah Beck scored 10. “I’m happy to get the first win out of the way for varsity,” coach Burke Wasson. “Eldorado’s JV team is the best JV team I’ve ever seen. You can’t be mad losing to a team like that. Our JV players got their first match done, four players got on the board for the first time, and we’ll build from there.” The Wildcats begin GEC conference play on Thursday, Oct. 24, at Galatia.
