State Senator Dale Fowler's Student Advisory Council

State Senator Dale Fowler hosted the 2024 Senator Fowler Student Advisory Council at the Mt. Dew Park Diamond Club on October 30. College & Career Counselor Samantha Craig took four CMSF students to the event. The students in attendance were (left to right): Danika Skaggs, Jacie Sais, Madison Gwaltney, and Chloee Culkin.

Senator Dale Fowler (59th District) requested three to four students from each local high school in his district to join his Student Advisory Council for the 2024/2025 school year. Those students in attendance from across the 59th Senate District were able to learn more about government through a hands-on approach. The students heard from leaders at the state and local levels, learned why these people chose careers in public service, and they learned how the students can become involved in government to make a difference with issues they care about.

Senator Fowler stated, "My hope is to help inspire the next generation of leaders to get involved early with public service. I do that by providing them with an open forum where they are free to talk about what is important to them. Students are divided into groups where they can pitch ideas for new legislation. Then the groups all have a chance to present their proposals to the entire body, with the students voting on what idea to advance. The winning proposal is then the subject of a mock committee hearing where students take on different roles in the legislative process, from lawmakers to concerned citizens, from lobbyists to the governor."
