The Carrier Mills-Stonefort Grade School and High School will be closed on Tuesday, November 3 for Election Day.
In June, Governor Pritzker signed Public Act 101-0642 into law, creating a number of requirements aimed at helping the state prepare for holding the 2020 General Election in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. This law requires November 3, 2020 to be a school holiday.
In the United States, Election Day is the annual day set by law for the general elections of federal public officials. The date is set as the first Tuesday after November 1, which makes this year’s election date November 3, 2020. For federal offices (President, Vice President, and the United States Congress) and most gubernatorial offices, Election Day occurs only in even-numbered years. Presidential elections are held every four years and elections to the US House of Representatives and the US Senate are held every two years. Terms for those elected begin in January the following year; the President and Vice President are inaugurated (sworn in) on Inauguration Day, which is usually on January 20.
